Now, I have to begin this by saying that I am rather biased. Matilda starts school late for a girl her age, and is placed in the lowest form in Crunchem Hall Primary School. Miss Honey's mother had died early on, and her father invited his wife's stepsister Trunchbull to look after the house and his daughter. Trunchbull attacks the students, but Matilda keeps them safe and she and the other students force her out of the school for good, and Honey moves back into her true home. Trilby, visits Miss Trunchbull's house but finds it empty with no sign of her next destination. Later, during a sadistic lesson that Miss Trunchbull is teaching, Matilda telekinetically raises a piece of chalk to the blackboard and writes on it, posing as the spirit of Miss Honey's late father and demanding that Miss Trunchbull hand over Miss Honey's house and wages and leave the region forever.

Unfortunately, though, Matilda has grown up with parents who do not give her the attention and love she deserves. Shelves: awesomewould-recommend While I personally love a book about a child prodigy especially in the area of telekinesisI had a different reaction to this book while rereading it as an adult. She is only able to direct her powers through her eyes, and it takes six days for her to make her powers stronger. They stop by Honey's home to fetch Matilda, who refuses to go with them and says she would rather be adopted by Honey; remorseful for never understanding her daughter, Zinnia and Harry both sign Matilda's adoption papers and Matilda lives happily with Honey, who then becomes the new principal of Crunchem Hall. Harry sells her a car in exchange for her admitting Matilda as a pupil.

As Mr. Plot summary In a small Buckinghamshire village, Matilda Wormwood is a five-and-half-year-old girl of unusual precocitybut she is often ill-treated or neglected by her parents and older brother Michael. She comes up with tricks to play on her parents so that they treat her better, and thus to make her own life a little less miserable.

Buy Study Guide Matilda Wormwood is a young girl who is extraordinarily brilliant. Confused by the phenomenon, she shakes it off. Wormwood is not portrayed by Danny DeVito. Trunchbull accuses Matilda, whose anger at the injustice leads her to telekinetically tip the glass over, splashing the newt onto Trunchbull.

Preparing to avenge Miss Honey, Matilda develops her telekinetic gift through practice at home. At school, Matilda befriends her teacher, Jennifer Honey, who is astonished by her intellectual abilities.

Matilda finds solace in the local library, and Matilda book Honey takes a job as a teacher to leave home. When Magnus's will mysteriously appears, it is revealed that his house belonged to Miss Honey all along, as do his life savings.

At a young age, she can solve complex math problems in her head and read books meant for adults. Soon using them on her principal so she can drive her away from the school. Reread this as an adult with the above perspective and you will find a chilling tale of a child trying to create something better for herself than the toxic circumstances she was born into.

The message appears to be from the ghost of Miss Honey's father, demanding that Trunchbull give his daughter back her house and rightful possessions. The film, notably, features famed actor Danny DeVito as Mr.

When Trunchbull is sufficiently frightened, Matilda uses her powers to battle Miss Trunchbull by pummeling her with flying classroom equipment. Wormwood was based on a real-life character from Roald Dahl's home village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire.

Wormwood and their son, Michael, are quite different from Matilda, preferring to watch television than read books.
